Vancouver carpet guide

Carpet cleaning Vancouver prices and how long it takes to dry

A bedroom and a living room are $126 — three billable hours, at $42 per hour. A whole house with stairs is $252. Below is the table, and the thing nobody tells you about drying a carpet in a Vancouver winter.

  • Hot-water extraction, not a shampoo machine. Different equipment, different result
  • Dry in 4–6 hours in summer. In a damp Vancouver January, plan for longer
  • Booked on the same visit as another service, you pay for one trip instead of two

What carpet cleaning actually costs

Same sum as every service we run: rate × technicians × hours, at $42 per hour, per technician. Machine, solution, water and travel are all inside that figure.

The honest comparison

Hiring a machine for the weekend, and what it does not do

A rental machine from the supermarket is about $40 a day, which looks like it beats us. Sometimes it does. Here is the honest version of when.

Professional extraction

What the truck-grade machine does

  • Heats the water, which is most of what lifts oils out of the fibre
  • Pulls back far more of what it puts in, so the carpet is damp and not soaked
  • Reaches the grit at the base of the pile, which is what actually wears a carpet out
  • Pre-treats and agitates the traffic lanes before extracting
  • Someone else carries it up your stairs
The weekend rental

Where it falls short, and where it is fine

  • Fine for a single fresh spill, caught the same day
  • Less suction, so more water stays in: that is the long drying time
  • A carpet left damp for two days in Vancouver can start to smell
  • Add the solution, the deposit and your Saturday to the rental price
  • Most landlords will not accept it as the professional clean a tenancy requires
The detail

Drying a carpet in a Vancouver winter

Written for homes in Metro Vancouver. Rates and worked examples updated 14 October 2026.

The four-to-six hours everyone quotes is a summer number

Every carpet cleaner in the city says four to six hours, and in July that is true. In January, in a condo with the windows shut and the outside air already at eighty per cent humidity, a carpet does not dry on schedule just because a website said so.

What actually drives it is airflow and the amount of water left behind. We can control the second one — that is what a strong extraction does — and you can control the first. Run the heat, open two windows at opposite ends for cross draught even if it feels wrong, and leave the ceiling fans on. A dehumidifier in the room, if you have one, halves it.

Book the morning block if you can. A carpet cleaned at nine has the whole day and the heating cycle to dry. One cleaned at five o’clock in December has a cold night. It makes more difference than anything else on this page.

Vacuuming and cleaning are two different jobs

A vacuum lifts what is sitting on top of the pile. It does very little about what has worked its way to the base, which is the grit that cuts the fibres every time someone walks on it. That is why a carpet in a hallway goes flat and grey in the walking line years before the one in the spare room does, even when both get vacuumed.

Extraction is the part that reaches the base. Done once or twice a year on the rooms that get walked on, it is the difference between replacing a carpet at eight years and at fifteen.

Pet smell does not live in the carpet

This is the one that surprises people. When a pet accident soaks through, most of it ends up in the underlay and sometimes in the subfloor, and the carpet above it is only the part you can see. Cleaning the surface removes the stain and the smell comes back in a week.

If it has gone through, say so when you book. The treatment is different, it takes longer, and in a few cases the honest answer is that the underlay has to be replaced and no amount of cleaning will fix it. We would rather tell you that before taking your money than after.

When a carpet cannot be saved, and we will say so

Three situations where cleaning is not the answer: the fibres in the traffic lane have been worn flat and will not stand up again, bleach or a strong cleaner has taken the colour out, or the backing has delaminated and the carpet ripples after it dries. None of these are reversible.

A clean will still make the rest of the room better, and sometimes that is enough. But if the answer is that you are paying us to delay a replacement by six months, that is your decision to make with the real information, not a surprise afterwards.

The saving nobody asks about: one visit instead of two

Carpet is separate equipment and a separate rate, but it is not a separate day. If you are already booking a deep clean or a move-out clean, adding the carpets to the same visit means one arrival instead of two.

On a move-out it matters twice over: most tenancy agreements in British Columbia expect professional carpet cleaning where the suite is carpeted, a vacuum does not satisfy it, and doing it on the same day means the floors have the evening to dry before the walkthrough instead of being wet when the inspector arrives.

In one line. Extraction, not shampoo. Morning slot if you can get one, and open the windows anyway. Tell us about the pet before we arrive, not after. And if you are moving out or booking a deep clean, put the carpets on the same visit.

Reserve the block you see open — we confirm it with you. Our scheduling team reviews every request, calls or texts you back, and brings your visit forward if an earlier slot frees up. We also run 9:00 am and 12:00 noon starts, subject to availability. If you would rather have a different time on the same day, select any open slot and write your preference in the comments box at the last step. Answers

Carpet cleaning in Vancouver: your questions

How much does carpet cleaning cost in Vancouver?

Carpet cleaning is $42 per hour, per technician. A bedroom and a living room is three billable hours, or $126; three bedrooms and two living areas is five hours, or $210; and a whole house with stairs is six hours, or $252. The machine, the solution, the water and the travel are all included. Stairs, a single rug or one sofa on their own we quote when you ask, because they fall below a normal booking.

How long does carpet take to dry after cleaning?

Four to six hours is the figure everyone quotes, and in summer it holds. In a Vancouver winter, with the windows shut and the outside air already damp, it takes longer. What you can do about it: run the heat, open two windows at opposite ends for a cross draught, leave the fans on, and use a dehumidifier if you have one. Booking the morning block helps more than anything else, because the carpet gets the whole day.

Is renting a carpet machine cheaper than hiring someone?

A rental machine is around $40 a day before the solution and the deposit, so on paper yes. It is a reasonable choice for one fresh spill caught the same day. For a whole home it is a false economy: a rental machine has far less suction, so more water stays in the carpet and the drying time doubles, and a carpet left damp for two days in this climate starts to smell. Most landlords also will not accept it as the professional clean a tenancy requires.

Will carpet cleaning remove pet smell?

It depends on how far it went. If the accident soaked through, most of it is in the underlay and sometimes the subfloor, and the carpet is only the part you can see: clean the surface and the smell returns in about a week. Tell us when you book, because the treatment is different and takes longer. In a few cases the honest answer is that the underlay has to be replaced, and we would rather say that before taking your money.

How often should carpets be professionally cleaned?

Once or twice a year for the rooms that get walked on, and less often for bedrooms and spare rooms. The reason is not appearance: vacuuming lifts what sits on top of the pile, but the grit that works its way to the base is what cuts the fibres every time someone walks on it. Extraction reaches that. Done regularly it is the difference between replacing a carpet at eight years and at fifteen.

Do you clean area rugs and upholstery too?

Upholstery yes, at the same rate, quoted when you tell us the pieces. Area rugs we quote on sight, because a wool rug, a silk one and a synthetic one need three different approaches and the wrong one shrinks the backing or bleeds the dye. Send a photo of the rug and of the label on the underside and we price it before anyone touches it.

Can you clean the carpets on the same day as the rest of the house?

Yes, and it is cheaper that way because it is one arrival instead of two. It matters most on a move-out: most tenancy agreements in British Columbia expect professional carpet cleaning where the suite is carpeted, and doing it on the same visit means the floors have the evening to dry rather than being wet when the inspector walks in.

Send us the rooms, we send the number

Which rooms are carpeted, whether there are stairs, and whether a pet has had an accident. That is enough for a written total the same day.
